How It Works

Each month, three selected graduate students will participate in a live Zoom webinar.

Each researcher will have 10 minutes to explain:

  • The agricultural challenge being addressed

  • Their research approach, findings, or proposed solution

  • How the research could be relevant to Canadian agriculture

  • What adaptation, testing, or collaboration may be needed in Canada

Each presentation will be followed by moderated audience questions and constructive feedback from an invited panel.

Attendance is free and open to everyone. 


Who Can Apply?

Applications are open to final-year undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students enrolled at recognized universities outside Canada. Students from all regions are welcome, including Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, North America, and Oceania. IYCA particularly encourages applications from researchers who have had limited opportunities to present their work internationally.

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in a final-year undergraduate, master’s or doctoral program

  • Be conducting research in agriculture or a related discipline

  • Explain how their research could be relevant to Canadian agriculture

  • Have permission to present the proposed information publicly, and be available for the live webinar

  • Be able to deliver a clear 10-minute presentation in English and answer questions

Research may be at the proposal stage, in progress, or recently completed. Applicants must clearly identify the current stage of their research and the limitations of any preliminary findings.

IYCA Audience Impact Award

Following the presentations, attendees will be invited to consider:

  • Does the research address a Canadian agricultural challenge or opportunity?

  • Could the idea be practical or adaptable in Canada?

  • What meaningful impact could it have on Canadian agriculture or the agri-food sector?

The audience will select the presentation it believes has the greatest potential to benefit Canadian agriculture. The selected presenter will receive the IYCA Audience Impact Award. The award recognizes potential relevance and impact. Audience voting and panel feedback do not constitute formal scientific peer review.

How are presenters selected?

Applications will be reviewed based on:

  • Quality and originality of the research

  • Relevance to Canadian agriculture

  • Practicality or potential for adaptation in Canada

  • Possible environmental, economic, animal-health, or social impact

  • Clarity of the proposed presentation

IYCA will also seek geographic, institutional, and research diversity among the three monthly presenters.
What opportunities are there for presenters?

Selected presenters will receive:

  • International visibility for their research and ideas

  • Constructive questions and professional feedback

  • A digital certificate of participation

  • Opportunities to connect with academics and agriculture professionals

  • Consideration for the IYCA Audience Impact Award

  • Optional promotion through IYCA communication channels, with consent

Participation may create opportunities for introductions, mentorship, collaboration, further study, or research partnerships. However, participation does not guarantee funding, admission, employment, publication, or future collaboration.

  10. Other subjects with a clear connection to Canadian agriculture
Can students from any country apply?

Applications are open to eligible final-year undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students enrolled at recognized colleges, polytechnics, and universities outside Canada. Students from every region are encouraged to apply.
Is there an application or participation fee?

No. Applying, presenting, and attending the webinar are free.
Must my research be completed?

No. Research proposals, work in progress, and recently completed studies may be considered. Applicants must clearly explain the stage and limitations of their work.
How will I protect my research ownership?

The webinar is a public event. Applicants should not submit or present confidential, proprietary, patent-sensitive, culturally restricted, or unpublished information that they are not authorized to share. Presenters retain ownership of their research. Where required, IYCA will obtain separate consent before publicly sharing webinar recordings, presenter profiles, photographs, or research summaries.
Will the webinar be recorded?

In accordance with the IYCA recording policy, IYCA will obtain the presenter’s consent before publicly sharing a recording or promotional material.
